Last season BDFAS applied for a grant towards funding a Young Artists Competition and we were delighted to receive an award.

The Competition was part of our annual Art in Action Exhibition which invites artists to display a wide variety of artwork in the ballroom of a local hotel. Giving wide exposure to the students’ work, the exhibition usually attracts around 800 visitors.

International schools in the vicinity from Key Stage 3 were invited to take part. Students were given a synopsis of the themes for our lectures for season 2016-2017 and asked to design an image for the front cover of our programme brochure highlighting one of the topics. The images needed to be one of the simple and eye-catching even when reduced in size.

Three schools participated and the standard of work was exceptionally high making judging very difficult. Presenting the prizes Chris Stewart author of Driving Over Lemons praised both the students’ skill and imagination.

Outright winner was 13 year old, Illis Mejias from Swans International School. Her portrait of Salvador Dali now makes a striking impact on our new brochure.
