Welcome to the Arts Society Shrewsbury website.

The Arts Society Shrewsbury, formed in 1982, is a member society of The Arts Society, one of some 360 member societies in the UK, mainland Europe, New Zealand and Australia. We are also part of The Arts Society West Midlands Area.

Our Arts Society Shrewsbury members, currently around 250 in number, come from all over Shropshire. Our Autumn Lectures will be held at the Shropshire Conference Centre Royal Shrewsbury Hos;ital, Mytton Oak Road, Shrewsbury, SY3 8XQ. Lectures begin at 2.00pm prompty on the third Wednesday of the month, with the exception of July and August (no meeting) and December where we hold our Christmas lunch and lecture.

Lectures last about an hour; a light lunch is available (for a small charge) before the lecture from 12.30pm and tea and coffee are available after the lecture, for which we ask members to make a contribution. This gives members an opportunity to meet and to book for our other events. There is plenty of parking at the club.

We are running hybrid lectures, so in person and a zoom alternative for those members who are unable to attend in person. A link is sent two days before each lecture.

In addition we hold at least one Day of Special Interest per year and offer members a varied programme of visits to galleries, museums and historic buildings within a day’s travelling of Shrewsbury along with an annual holiday in the UK

We are actively engaged in supporting local Young Arts projects and our Church Recording group is currently working at Alberbury Church.  Our Heritage Volunteers are working at Shrewsbury Abbey. 

Our aims are to offer you an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and interest in all aspects of the arts and to meet people of like mind in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, and to foster active participation in the preservation of our cultural heritage.
