Charles 1 amassed one of the finest art collections ever assembled.
During Charles’ reign, he purchased over 2000 works of art, including the collection of the Dukes of Mantua, works by Titian, Raphael and Mantegna. He engaged Rubens to paint the ceiling of the Banqueting House and he appointed van Dyck as his Court Artist.
