The Arts Society Burghley
The Arts Society Burghley is a small, friendly society. It was formed originally as the Burghley Decorative and Fine Arts Society thanks to the dedication of Annette Beeton.
From May 2025 we will meet in the Ballroom, Stamford Arts Centre, 27 St. Mary's Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire PE9 2DL. There is step free access to the Ballroom from the side door on St. George's Square. Lectures are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10:45 with the exceptions of December when we meet earlier and in April when it will be our Study Day.
Our Chair Dr. Janet Clarke and the committee strive to offer an interesting and varied programme of 9 lectures each year between September to June. As optional events and at an additional cost we offer either a Study Day or Special Interest Morning, and also excursions. Trips last year included visits to Holdenby House and Doddington Hall and there was a very successful Study Day on Windsor Castle in Windsor with a lecture in the morning and a visit to the Castle and St. George's Chapel in the afternoon. This year we have enjoyed a guided tour of Milton Hall and a Victorian Christmas at Rockingham Castle.
Future events include a visit to Kings Cross and St. Pancras stations with Ian Swankie. Information about our forthcoming lectures and events can be found by scrolling down the page.
The membership fee is currently £65.00 and our year of lectures begins in September and finishes in June. If you are interested in joining our society or attending one of our lectures as a guest, please contact the membership secretaries by email: burghley@theartssociety.org. The guest fee is £10.00.
Subscriptions for existing members are due for renewal on 30th June and we must have received your payment by 28th July. We will be inviting new members to join our society over the summer.
