This wonderful 5 day series will consider the development of English Gardens from the Renaissance gardens of Italy up to the present day, both their evolution, and also the way in which gardens have featured in art.   This series of talks will be held in the Cerne Abbas Village Hall, Nr. Dorchester DT2 7GY and online (not recorded).

An introduction as much as anything, as all English gardens from the Tudor/Stuart period basically come from an Italian root.

James Bolton on Parterres and Wilderness - late 17th century into 18th.  This is the first of three days on the evolution of gardens in England.

Tuesday 13 January 2026
Caroline Holmes on Impressionists in their gardens: light and colour.
Effectively the 19th century.

Tuesday 10 February 2026.  James Bolton returns to deal with 20th century English gardens.

Tuesday 10 March 2026.  Clare Ford-Wille on Gardens in Art from Romans to Monet.
