How the decorative arts are playing a part in the regeneration of our seaside resorts. Traces from three centuries of seaside holidays are still present in our historic coastal towns; their architecture and environments. The birth of the seaside holiday had started with early visitors to the seashore going for the benefit of their health; artists and, later, photographers were drawn by the sublime nature of the shoreline and amazing light. It was public transport which opened our coast to the masses, but also drew people away with cheap flights abroad, causing a downturn in the prosperity of our seaside resorts.
