The Arts Society Shrewsbury, formed in 1982, is a member society of The Arts Society, one of some 360 member societies in the UK, mainland Europe, New Zealand and Australia. We are also part of The Arts Society West Midlands Area.

The Arts Society Shrewsbury is a thriving society giving its members the opportunity of not only sharing a love of the Arts with like minded people but also to support young & community arts projects around the county and help protect our areas cultural heritage. Currently we have over 250 members and are growing. New Members & one off Visitors (£10 per lecture)  are always welcome at our monthly meetings. Our members come from all over Shrewsbury & Shropshire.

We hold our lectures at Shrewsbury Town Football Stadium Croud Meadow Otely Road Shrewsbury SY2 6ST. Lectures begin at 2.00pm prompty on the third Wednesday of the month, with the exception of July and August (no meeting) and December where we hold our Christmas lunch and lecture starting at 11am.There is plenty of free parking at the club.

Lectures last about an hour; a light lunch is available (for a small charge) before the lecture from 12.30pm and complimentary tea and coffee are available after the lecture. We are a very social society and the membership appreciates the time to meet with their friends and also make bew ones either over a sandwich or a cup of tea.

We are running hybrid lectures, so in person and a zoom alternative for those members who are unable to attend in person. A link is sent to members two days before each lecture.

In addition we hold two Days of Special Interest per year and offer members a varied programme of visits to galleries, museums and historic buildings within a day’s travelling of Shrewsbury along with an annual holiday in the UK. This year we are visisting Kent & Sussex at the end of April 2025. 

We are actively engaged in supporting local Young Arts and community arts projects and our Church Recording group is currently working at Alberbury Church.  Our Heritage Volunteers are working at Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle. 

Our aims are to offer you an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and interest in all aspects of the arts and to meet people of like mind in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, and to foster active participation in the preservation of our cultural heritage.
