A 17th-century fortress overlooking Palma Bay, where Mediterranean history and architecture come to life.
We are delighted to invite you to a special visit to the historic Castle of San Carlos in Palma de Mallorca — a site where architecture, military history, and Mediterranean heritage converge.
Built in the 17th century to defend the Bay of Palma and the ancient Roman port of Porto Pi, the castle reflects the strategic importance of Mallorca at the crossroads of Mediterranean trade routes. Originally constructed to protect against pirate and Berber attacks, it later served various roles, including a prison for officers and an artillery battery. Its distinctive trapezoidal design, with bastions at each corner, is the result of centuries of expansion and adaptation.
Since 1981, the castle has been home to a military museum, offering visitors a compelling journey through its layered past. Today, managed by the Castillo de San Carlos Consortium, it stands as a remarkable testament to the island’s complex and fascinating history.
Join us as we explore this unique landmark overlooking the sea.
For more information see the museum's website at https://castillomuseosancarlos.com/en/
MEETING POINT: At the entrance to the Castillo, at 11.00 am.
