Most kindly invites you to join us for our
Special Event Sunday 25th May 2025 at 11.00* hrs.
'From Rembrandt to Vermeer:
Masterpieces from the Leiden Collection'
At the H'ART Museum, Amsterdam
* meetup at the museum at 10.45.
Featuring 75 works by 27 artists, this exhibition is the largest display of The Leiden Collection ever shown publicly in the Netherlands. The works on view include over a dozen astounding paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn and also features masterpieces by Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Ferdinand Bol, Gerard Dou, Frans van Mieris, and the jewel of the collection: the only privately owned painting by Johannes Vermeer, specially conserved for this event.
The exhibition offers a glimpse into 17th-century Dutch life. People take centre stage, as seen in portraits and character studies capturing the social aspirations and individuality of the era’s citizens. Also on view are engaging depictions of everyday activities: market vendors selling their wares, soldiers playing cards, youths engrossed in books, and women writing letters or playing music. Religious and mythological subjects, commonly shown in private homes, reveal the period’s spiritual and intellectual pursuits.
The Leiden Collection is one of the world’s most significant private collections of Dutch Golden Age art.
Experience ‘Women in the Picture’
A captivating selection of 17th century masterpieces featuring portraits of women-goddesses, noble matrons, and everyday figures—through the eyes of celebrated Old Masters.
A highlight of the exhibition is a rare work by Maria Schalcken, one of the few known female painters of her era, offering a unique perspective within a traditionally male-dominated field.
Join us for this special exhibition and gain a unique and intimate glimpse into the 17th century Netherlands through the eyes of the great Dutch Masters.
