Visit to the Globe Theatre and Tate Modern
15 Nov 2017
On Thursday, 19 October 2017, Members from The Arts Society North Bucks enjoyed a day trip to London. First destination was the Globe Theatre, where we were able to view the excellent exhibition. This explored the life of Shakespeare, the colourful area of London where he lived, and the history of the Globe Theatre & its reconstruction. We were taken on an entertaining tour of the Theatre, which brought the experience of Elizabethan entertainment to life for us, as we sat in the balcony overlooking the pit where the 'penny-stinkers' would have stood to watch the performances. We then watched a demonstration of one of our members being dressed as an Elizabethan lady, a complex and many-layered process!
Finally we walked along the South Bank to Tate Modern where we were given a guided tour of the highlights of the permanent exhibition.
