Victoria's Diamond Isle - Isle of Wight Tour June 2019
9 Aug 2019 - 12:33 BY
17 members and friends enjoyed a tour of the Isle of Wight at the end of June. We boarded our very smart, brand new coach in Uckfield and Lewes and had a mini cruise on the ferry to the island in glorious sunshine.
Our tour company, City and Villages, had arranged a varied and interesting itinerary for us during the 5 days, including visits to well-known places like Osborne House as well as private visits to the Sir Max Aitken museum in Cowes, which opened especially for us, and Farringford, the home of Alfred ,Lord Tennyson. Members particularly enjoyed the visit to the Roman villa at Brading.
We had a superb Blue Badge guide, Jackie Parry, who was the fount of all knowledge about the Isle of Wight and made a detour to enable us to see the Round the Island yacht race which was taking place, albeit rather slowly due to the lack of wind!
Our thanks to Linda Drabble for organising this tour.
Photos in the Gallery courtesty of Peggy Hooton. They show a donkey at Carisbrooke Castle, used to demonstrate the water wheel (for a strictly limited time each day), Sandown Beach, Havenstreet Heritage Railway and a mosaic from Brading Roman Villa. The heading photo is of a hypocaust, also from Brading.
