OUR SUPPORT for YOUNG ARTS

OUR SUPPORT for YOUNG ARTS

11 Jan 2020 - 10:05 BY Peggy Hooton

Currently we have agreed to support financially two local schools, Holy Cross Primary School, Uckfield and Chailey Community School. They are pursuing  two very different, imaginative ventures each of which is designed to have a long-term impact.

Holy Cross is building on its art curriculum, kick-started a couple of years ago with the help of local Arts Society funding. This time, all teachers will participate in training (in a real classroom situation) led by a specialist consultant.  They will practice developing specific art techniques including printing, sculpture and keeping a sketchbook.  Follow-up support will be led by the school’s own art specialist.

Chailey Art Faculty is working with a professional Artist and Graphic Designer, exploring the potential of home-made pinhole cameras.  As their new school building takes shape, Year 10 students are collecting images for high-resolution printing and digital processing to produce an aluminium art work for the façade of the new school building.  This venture is designed stimulate the development of a GCSE course in Photography.
