Heritage volunteering: Unlocking our Sound Heritage

Heritage volunteering: Unlocking our Sound Heritage

4 Nov 2019 - 12:07 BY Jean Steward, Co-Chair and Publicity Officer

The Arts Society Wensum has formed a group of heritage volunteers to work on the Unlocking our Sound Heritage Project.  The project is led by the British Library and supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  The Norwich Record Office is one a number of regional "hubs" involved in the project and will be digitising 5,000 sound items over three years from collections in the East of England, many of which will be made available online.

Our volunteers are listening to the materials once they have been digitised and filling in an online proforma describing the participants, date of recording and the content of the item.  The information is then used by professional team members to create a catalogue of the sound archives.
