CHAIR'S UPDATE AUGUST 2020 (Aug 8th 2020)
30 Aug 2020 - 14:53 BY
In view of the current situation we have decided to cancel our September and October lectures and now propose to start the new season in November with a lecture by John Ericson aptly named " Inn Signia; Pub Signs - Artwork and Stories behind their Names" .
John Ericson journeys through this corner of mystery and history in his lecture illustrating how fundamental pubs are to our history and culture. Colourful, intriguing and entertaining stories explain the origins of peculiar and distinctive pub names such as ’ The Bucket of Blood’, ‘Cow and Snuffers’, ‘Eager Poet’ and ‘Blind Jack’.
John Ericson is a well-travelled lecturer, as an educational consultant and recently a speaker for arts societies in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He is particularly interested in the skills of communication, the role of visual images and potential of IT.
The Hall will be following all the Covid-19 rules in place at the time for hygiene and safety with a one way system in and out. You will be required to wear a mask unless exempt.
Attendance will be limited to forty members ( no guests) and we will put in place a booking system to handle this.
We really need to know how our members feel about attending meetings in these circumstances. This is REALLY IMPORTANT for us in deciding what is the best way forward and so I would ask you to email me, telling me simply if you would like to attend lectures? Could I ask for your replies by the end of August.
Membership will be free until the end of 2020 - but if, for any reason, you have decided not to rejoin it would help us greatly if you could let us know.
