On a chilly April morning members left Welwyn Garden City for south east London to visit Crossness Pumping Station.
Welcome to The Arts Society Welwyn Garden
At The Arts Society Welwyn Garden, we offer a warm welcome to members and visitors who attend our monthly lectures. We are a friendly, sociable Society, meeting on the third Wednesday of the month at 10.30am. Our venue, Campus West, is a well-appointed theatre with all the facilities conducive to a splendid lecture experience.
There is no TASWG lecture in December but our afternoon Christmas event for members, featuring live musical entertainment, is on Wednesday December 11. To book a place please see the attachment below.
Our lectures resume on Wednesday January 15 2025 when Imogen Corrigan will talk on 'The Green Man in English Churches'. More correctly called 'foliate heads', these images proliferated in churches in the early 15th century and may have evolved from pagan times.
On Wednesday 12 February lecturer Rachel Church will explore the secret language of jewellery in her talk 'Flowers, Hearts and Gems'. Also in February we will have an afternoon 'pop-up' trip to Spencer House in St James's Place, London. Considered one of the finest houses ever built in London, we will have a private guided tour of its magnificent State Rooms. Details of our trip, on Monday 17 February, are being finalised, and places will be limited, but to register your interest please email us on welwyngarden@theartssociety.org
Our last lecture of the current membership year will be on Wednesday 19 March when lecturer Cindy Polemis will talk on 'John Singer Sargent and fashion' - not to be missed for those who enjoyed the fabulous Tate Britain exhibition earlier this year.
Our membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March and covers 10 lectures, with a break in August and December. The full 2024 -2025 programme is attached below. We welcome new members who have an interest in the Arts, whether art, history, sculpture, architecture, literature, drama or music. To join us please email our Membership Secretary Catherine Ferris at welwyngarden@theartssociety.org or complete and send the form attached below.
Visitors are welcome to our lectures. Do come along to the Hawthorne Theatre at Campus West and see what The Arts Society is all about. Visitors' tickets (£10) are available on the door or through the venue’s online booking system. https://www.campuswest.co.uk/
We also run an exciting programme of coach trips, visits and holidays for members through the year. Details are publicised at our lectures and on this website - watch this space!
Our Committee are a friendly team. We are always happy to encourage members to get involved in the Society, so whether you are a long-standing member or new to the Society please consider joining us or helping as a volunteer! Contact us via the email address below.
