Welcome to The Arts Society Exeter

Founded in 1975 and based in Exeter, our Society is the oldest in Devon. Our aims are to increase our own understanding and enjoyment of the arts in the broadest sense, to foster friendships and to support arts education and conservation in our local community. We meet monthly, usually on the second Wednesday, in The Exeter Phoenix, with theatre style seating so everyone can see and hear.

Our core programme is a series of nine monthly lectures running from September/October until June.  Lectures last for about an hour, are all illustrated and are given by experts in their field who are excellent and entertaining speakers. There is time for Q&A afterwards, then tea and biscuits in the Cafe.

We also hold Study Days, involving a more in-depth exposure to a particular artistic topic. Study Days involve 2 or 3 lectures, with breaks for coffee and lunch. Our Visits programme involves a day trip to places of interest, such as galleries, museums, stately homes and other buildings of significance, usually by coach from Exeter. We organise an annual holiday of 4/5 days as well - Dublin for 2023 and possibly Florence for 2024.  Members may also participate in courses and holidays organised by the South West Association of The Arts Society.

You would be very welcome to pop along to a talk and try us out.
