Go behind the scenes of two of the most historic bulidings in the City of London
Two guided tours are being offered for the price of £38,50 including lunch and afternoon tea with biscuits. The first tour is of London's oldest parish church, St Bartholomew the Great. Wtih over 900 years of history, witnessing the Black Death, the Great Fire of London, the Blitz and Hugh Grant's acting. It is a fascinating record of the life and times of a locale. Our tour at 11:00am will be led by the head verger, Gordon Furry and he will talk us through the arts and crafts to be found within, as well as the church's varied history.
Afterwards in the cloister, we shall have a catered lunch of a cold buffet with fruit and choice of tea or coffee, there is also the optional extra of a drink from the bar. Here we will have time to reflect upon this very special London landmark.
From St Bartholomew's we take a short walk to our second tour, which will start at 2:15pm and last for approx an hour, at an equally fascinating and intriguing heritage site: Charterhouse. The site originated during the Black Death and evolved into a Carthusian Monastery, saw the wrath of Henry VIII and his dissolution policies and emerged via a Tudor Mansion as a charity for the poor.
