Bavarian Castles & Culture – Holiday Summary

This enchanting holiday explores Bavaria’s fairytale castles, artistic treasures, and breathtaking Alpine scenery.

Staying at the four star Eidelweiss Hotel surrounded by the mountains of the Tyrolean Zugspitz area with stunning views, we visit the spectacular Neuschwanstein Castle, King Ludwig II’s romantic homage to Wagner, with its turrets rising dramatically from forested hills. Nearby, Hohenschwangau Castle, the summer home of King Maximilian II, offers a glimpse into royal life amid neo-Gothic splendour. At Linderhof Castle, Ludwig’s lavish rococo retreat, ornate interiors and exquisite gardens reflect his fascination with Versailles and opera.

Further highlights include the magnificent Kempten Residence, a baroque masterpiece with richly decorated halls, and Ettal Abbey, where monks still produce beer, liqueur, and cheese beneath the abbey’s graceful domes.

In the charming Alpine towns of Kempten and Füssen, we enjoy a warm Bavarian welcome, while Garmisch-Partenkirchen delights with its mountain views and links to Richard Strauss. The Münter House in Murnau reveals the early days of the Blue Rider art movement, and in Munich’s Alte Pinakothek, we admire Old Master paintings by Dürer, Rubens, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael.

A journey rich in art, history, and romance – truly a Bavarian dream.
