The Arts Society South Downs offers monthly lectures, special interest days and visits, as well as seasonal events.  Our lectures always take place on the first Wednesday of the month (except for January and August) in Fittleworth Village Hall, School Lane, Fittleworth, RH20 1JB.  Arrangements for other events are communicated to members as they arise.

Lectures

Our carefully selected lectures are both informative and entertaining. Subjects range across the full spectrum of decorative and fine arts and through the centuries. Our highly qualified and experienced lecturers are all experts in their chosen field.

 

Doors are open from 9.50 onwards and coffee is served until 10.20. Do come in good time for a chance to meet other members.  Lectures start promptly at 10.45 so please be in your seats by 10.30.  We are a very friendly Society where you will quickly make the acquaintance of like-minded people. If you let reception know that it is your first visit, they will ensure you are shown around and introduced to others.

Non-members who have a particular interest in one subject area or simply want to check us out are welcome to attend as visitors for a fee of £10 per lecture (refundable if you join the Society).  No need to book.

Visits

Each year we arrange several excursions for members and their guests to a range of places of interest.  We travel by coach or shared private transport.  Guided tours are arranged in small groups where appropriate. Like special interest days, visits are a good opportunity to get to know other members as we travel and over coffee or lunch.

Special Interest Days

The aim of a special interest day is to learn about a subject in more depth than is possible in a single lecture and consists of a series of two or three lectures on a theme.  At our two-lecture special interest days, we serve coffee before the lectures finishing with lunch. The days provide an opportunity to meet other members and share knowledge and experiences.  New members and guests are warmly welcomed.  Special interest days are held at Fittleworth Village Hall, School Lane, Fittleworth, RH20 1JB.
