Wassand Hall
Wassand Hall
5 Jul 2022
A very enjoyable visit by TAS Driffield Wolds to Wassand Hall, a fine Regency house near Hornsea. Wassand Hall, Listed Grade II* is a two-storey five bay brick villa, built for Charles Constable 1813-15, to the designs of Thomas Cundy. The house was altered by the Bridlington architect Francis Johnson 1947-8, who demolished the service wings and other unsightly Victorian additions, and remodelled the north front. There is a beautiful walled garden and magnificent views across to Hornsea Mere which is part of the estate. The estate has been in the same family since 1520.
After a tour of the house, our party enjoyed afternoon tea in the conservatory before exploring the restored walled garden with its wide variety of unusual plants.
