Minack Theatre Behind the Scenes
28 Nov 2019
Earlier in November, we were shown round by Phil Jackson the General Manager who has worked at the Minack for many years and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of it`s history.
The weather was benign and we were privileged to be shown the garden of the Cade`s house, normally not accessible to the public, where A Midsummer Nights Dream, the original Minack play, was staged by Rowena Cade.
Phil spoke on the past and more recent history, we had a tour of the new four storey building which houses dressing rooms, stores for equipment props and lighting, rehearsal rooms and a room for outside groups such as schoolchildren complete with a kitchen and laundry.
The building has been cleverly designed to hug the rockface, is amazingly spacious, and has wonderful views across towards Logan`s Rock - a really special addition to the theatre`s facilities.
After the tour we were treated to a buffet lunch with a particularly good bowl of hot soup!
Our thanks to Phil and his staff for making us so welcome and for treating us to a very special morning.
