During the 16th and 17th centuries, women artists in Venice, Rome, Naples and Bologna undeniably shared a common ground that earned them their own place in the Baroque aesthetics. These women chose to dedicate themselves to painting and, consequently, to compete with accomplished male artists and their studios.
Our guided tour started off with an explanation of some historical buildings in the city of Ghent by Marzia Caracciolo di Forino, our guided tour organizer, and went on with lunch at a local restaurant, making acquaintance with our visitors Wang and Jane Choy, our Area Mainland Europe trainer and accredited lecturer from The Hague. Lunch was followed by a brisk walk to the exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts where paintings were on display for the last day of the exhibition. A truly remarkable tour with an experienced guide who triggered our thoughts on the diverse styles of the period.
A great afternoon well spent.
