As Christmas approaches, the arts and culture world prepares for 2019. Which events are hotly anticipated? We asked novelist, broadcaster and Arts Society Lecturer Sarah Dunant, ceramics artist Phoebe Cummings, and curator for the Liverpool Biennial 2020, Manuela Moscoso, for their choices.
Sarah Dunant
Novelist, journalist, broadcaster, critic and Arts Society Lecturer
‘The world will be queuing for Van Gogh and Britain at Tate Britain (27 March–11 August); that might leave more room at the Royal Academy of Arts for its two shows. First, the Bill Viola/Michelangelo exhibition, with the work of Viola, alongside drawings by Michelangelo (26 January–31 March). Then there will be a smaller but, I suspect, equally intense show: The Renaissance Nude (3 March–2 June).’

Clay artist and winner of the 2018 Woman’s Hour Craft Prize
‘The British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent (28 September–10 November) is in my diary. Launched in 2009, it is a festival that showcases contemporary ceramics from across the world. It’s great to see such a broad range of work, as well as catching the programme of talks, events and activities that runs alongside it.’

Manuela Moscoso
Senior Curator at Tamayo Museo (Mexico City) and Curator for the Liverpool Biennial 2020
‘My choice is Armando Andrade Tudela, curated by artist Daniel Steegmann Mangrané. Tudela is a Peruvian artist whose practice explores the links between historical process and form as social historical facts. Steegmann is an artist thinking beyond the current ontological frame, trying to expand the idea of “us”. I look forward to seeing the result of this collaboration.’
