Brontë Parsonage Museum

Come and see Yorkshire’s beloved Brontë Parsonage Museum as it was meant to be seen: by candlelight. Wander through the historic rooms, listening out for the creaks and sighs of the old house after dark – and perhaps a tread on the stair. There’ll be a spooky storyteller on hand for those seeking an extra thrill.

Strawberry Hill

To visit Strawberry Hill is to wander around the deliciously macabre imagination of Horace Walpole: 18th-century father of modern horror, who launched his own Gothic revival a century before the Victorians. It’s a particularly special moment for the house; a new exhibition, Lost Treasures of Strawberry Hill, reunites the paintings, sculptures and curios that were dispersed after Walpole’s death. This candle-lit tour takes you through some of the strange objects in his collection, for one night only.

Modern Art Oxford

Modern Art Oxford will be up far past its bedtime on 27 October, when you’ll be able to wander round Shadowlight Artists: Rising and Future Knowledge from 6pm. Anyone after a spot of live music can catch a set from avant-garde folk outift You Are Wolf, followed by David Bramwell’s performance, combining music, animation and film to take you on a  psychogeographical journey into the occult secrets of waterways.

Enniskillen Castle

Party like it’s 1499 at Northern Ireland’s remarkable medieval fortress Enniskillen Castle. The castle doors will swing open for one night only, with live music, an on-site bar and medieval-inspired food. Look out for one or two former residents, said to haunt the walkways of the castle after dark.
