Drawing Room Discussions

Drawing Room Discussions

13 Dec 2017

On 5th December 2017 Maev Kennedy, Arts Writer for the Guardian hosted a wonderful evening curated around the theme of magic. With a sloe gin cocktail in hand, guests enjoyed a relaxing evening within the Royal Over-Seas League's Drawing Room as three exceptional Arts Society speakers offered their unique insights into this enchanting subject.

Eileen Goulding presented a fascinating talk on Ancient Egypt and forgotten spells, and Stella Lyons captivated the audience with her presentation on the famed ‘painter of light’ Joseph Wright of Derby. The evening would not have been complete without Ian Keable’s recount of Charles Dickens the accomplished necromancer who performed a few magic tricks to round things off.

Drawing Room Discussions is a new events series hosted by The Arts Society & ROSL ARTS; both dedicated to supporting creativity and enriching lives through the arts, in which we invite a prominent cultural figure to curate an event based on a theme that truly captivates them. This is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the interests and passions of the cultural figures that inspire you, by better understanding the topics that inspire them.

More dates will be announced in 2018.
