The Arts Society Welwyn Garden Visit to Boughton House and its estate
We enjoyed a visit to Boughton Hall on September 2nd; first having a tour of the house with a knowledgeable tour guide. We saw the parts of the Buccleuch Collection on current display that went across the decorative arts spectrum. Our tour included paintings by El Greco, Van Dyck and Gainsborough, exceptional French furniture by the master cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle, delicate Sèvres porcelain, Mortlake tapestries and 16th century rugs from the Middle East.
A coach tour of the estate's villages followed including a visit to St Edmunds church with it's magnificent memorial marbles for members of the Buccleuch family. The damp weather didn't deter us from this successful visit.
