Michiel de Ruyter: Admiral of Europe?

By Frits de Ruyter de Wildt

Dear Members and Guests,

We invite you to join us for a lecture given by Frits de Ruyter de Wildt on ‘Michiel de Ruyter: Admiral of Europe?’ in the Atrium on Tuesday 12th January 2027 at 20.00 hours.

'History is written by the victors' is no longer true, according to Frits de Ruyter de Wildt.  He is the 12th generation descendant of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter, the most famous Dutch Admiral.  Research, social media, and correspondence with the Vatican Archives have given him insights that history books have not mentioned before.  A forgotten maritime battle, lost intestines.  Let yourself be amazed and convinced.

We are hoping that Members and Guests will take the opportunity to come to the Atrium.

For those unable to be present at the Atrium, this lecture will also be streamed via Zoom, but only to those who registered in advance.

You are requested to sign up for the lecture beforehand, also if you are coming to join us in person at the Atrium, by clicking on the sentence at the 'How to book' section.

Frits de Ruyter
Frits is a 12th generation descendant of The Netherland's most famous admiral Michiel de Ruyter. He is chairman of the Cultural Stichting Michiel de Ruyter that aspires to promote the memory of Michiel de Ruyter through commemorations and restoration of heritage sites. In 2017 he played an important role in the commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the 'Journey to Chatham' when the Dutch navy raided the Royal Dockyard there, destroying much of the fleet and towing the flagship back to The Netherlands .
