Art Bags for Young Creatives in Appleby-in-Westmorland
In December 2025, around 60 art bags were delivered to Appleby-in-Westmorland Food Bank to be shared with children aged between 3 and 16. The bags were created to give young people the opportunity to explore their creativity at home, particularly at a time of year that can be challenging for families.
Each art bag contained a thoughtful selection of good quality materials, including coloured pencils, drawing pads and paints, suitable for a wide age range. The aim was to provide resources that would encourage imagination, self-expression and enjoyment, whatever a child’s level of confidence or experience.
The project reflects The Arts Society’s commitment to widening access to the arts and supporting local communities in practical and meaningful ways. By working alongside the food bank, the initiative ensured that the art materials reached families who might not otherwise have access to them.
Feedback from volunteers highlighted how well received the bags were, with many children excited to take them home and start creating straight away.
