SIXTY YEARS ON - LIFE IN BRITAIN AS SEEN IN 1960 FILMS
COLIN SHINDLER, Lecturer on American and British social and cultural history . PhD and lecturer at Cambridge University. Writer and producer in television, radio and film.
There are four elements to this lecture. Firstly a look at the emergence of the North in Saturday Night. Secondly we look at Swinging Britain. Third is a look at the last days of Empire and finally the drastic change in the depicition of sex. Amongst films looked at will be Room at the Top, Alfie, a Hard Day’s Night, James Bond, Charge of the Light Brigade and Women in Love amongst other films.
