NICHOLAS HAWKSMOOR AND THE GLORIES OF ENGLISH BAROQUE
One of our finest architects, Hawksmoor is barely known to the general public - and this a man largely responsible for the magnificent Blenheim Palace, Castle Howard and the West towers of Westminster Abbey. His London churches such as Christchurch, Spitalfields stand proud and true. Starting as Sir Christopher Wren’s favourite pupil, Hawksmoor developed his own unique archi- tectural voice and, together with Sir John Vanbrugh and others, created the short-lived but glorious Eng- lish baroque movement in the early eighteenth-century.
