Purpose of Role

The Society Chairman is responsible for the overall management of the Society, maintaining good relationships between the Committee, the members and the Area and ensuring the ongoing future of the Society.

 

Responsibilities

National and Area

  • Representing the Society (or arrange a delegate) at the National AGM and the Annual Directory Meeting
  • Representing the Society (or arrange a delegate) at the Spring and Autumn Area Meetings
  • Attending informal Area Chairman's meeting(s) where held
  • Communicating Members' and Committee's views to the Area
  • Attending New Chairman's Information Day in NADFAS House
  • Upholding the Statement of Mutual Obligations with NADFAS

Society

  • Maintaining, and if necessary, updating the Constitution
  • Organising and chairing the Annual General Meeting: preparing Committee Report for the AGM
  • Attending as many events as required
  • Ensuring the delivery of a suitable programme of lectures
  • Ensuring effective management of all Study Days, Visits, overnight trips and other events
  • Devising and implementing a basic risk assessment for the  Society
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legal requirements

Committee

  • Establishing and maintaining an effective Committee
  • Regularly peruse the Newsletters section of the NADFAS website to keep up to date with any changes within NADFAS, with procedure etc
  • Ensuring that relevant Committee Members receive Newsletters relating to their areas of responsibility
  • Standing in for any Committee member in an emergency
  • Encouraging Committee members to attend Area Training

Other

  • Promoting the Society whenever possible
  • Build good relationships with other DFAS'

Role Description: Society Vice Chairman

The purpose of the role is to support the Chairman in the tasks listed above and, if required, to stand in for the Chairman in his or her absence.
