VENICE: CITY OF ART

Greater London Area
Wednesday, July 16, 2025 - 10:45
The Concert Artistes Association,
20 Bedford Street, London WC2E 9HP

Join us for this three-session study day to find out how this unique environment drove the demand for a revolution in painting that stretches from her 5th century beginnings to the present day

Marine City:

How history, geography and the climate conspired to create the unique setting that is Venice, and the revolution in art that emerged from this environment

The Scuole system:

How a powerful oligarchy was controlled by the Venetian elite and persuaded to pour their energy into sponsoring the great painters, architects and sculptors of the day.

The Biennale:

A Many-Headed Beast. In the 19th century, the age of Great Exhibitions, Venice launched The Art Biennale, where countries are invited to commission artists to represent them, and now it has spread throughout the city and runs from May until November to showcase the most exciting Contemporary and Modern Art.

How did a party for the Silver Anniversary of The King of Italy turn into a global event in the art world?
