A celebration of the 200th anniversary in 2024 of the RNLI by its official historian.

This lecture celebrates the 200th anniversary in 2024 of the RNLI, one of our best known and loved charities. As the RNLI’s official historian, Helen Doe has privileged access to the rich history of the amazing people and the heroic stories on which this lecture is based, as well as having just written the official 200 year history of the institution.

Helen is a Fellow of the Centre for Maritime Studies at Exeter University, where she gained her PhD, as well as Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and trustee of the SS Great Britain. She has published extensively, including on 19th century sail, women in the maritime world, and Brunel and his ships. Helen has also lectured widely, including on board the three Cunard ships. She is also a regular broadcaster, including as a maritime expert on such programmes as 'Who do you think you are?'
