Grants Success Stories: Guildhall Art Gallery

The Arts Society Grants gave a grant to the Guildhall Art Gallery in 2017 and with this contribution they were able to help support intern Michaela Straub to undertake a six month placement at the Gallery.

The placement allowed Michaela to develop her conservation skills within a museum environment and experience the day to day work of a museum conservator.
During her six month placement she worked on the full treatment of the painting “The wife of Jeroboam and the blind prophet” by George Henry Grenville Manton. The painting had not been on display to the public since the 1960’s due to its condition, and now with the conservation work performed by Michaela is now on display in the Guildhall Art Gallery for the first time in over 40 years.
