The Arts Society Welwyn Garden

The Arts Society Welwyn Garden were delighted to take part in the St. Francis Church Christmas Tree Festival on the 4th and 5th of December. It was a welcome return of the Festival and an excellent way of promoting our Society to the general public.

Our committee creative team, Cheri, Sue and Christine worked well designing wonderful figures depicting the Nativity. Thank-you to each of them for their magnificent efforts, the tree looked wonderful.

When I visited on the 4th I was most impressed and our tree certainly stood out among the many entries.

The Forensic Eye

On the 26th November The Arts Society Welwyn Garden, enjoyed an excellent Day of Special Interest led by Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe.

Our first session "Looking with eyes wide open" encouraged us to search for clues in the painting itself. The composition of the figures could help to date the painting, and the style. An intriguing detail was the way some artists cunningly disguised their signatures in a  fold of cloth or round a neckline.

Where to visit first ? Fifty Treasures explored

Having purchased my Fifty Treasures book the first question was where to go first ? I knew I would be looking after my eleven year old grand-son for a day so somewhere outdoor seemed a good idea. Page 86 provided the answer, Berkhamsted Castle.

This proved a great place to visit. Free to enter, the ruins of the castle are surrounded by evidence of the moat and a circular path above the castle which takes the visitor all the way round, gaining a good overview of the site. Also a good way of burning off excess energy for my grand-son who led the way.
