Velásquez was a genius painter, was critical of the world around him and also closely related to Power as an artist.
It is inevitable to associate Velázquez with King Philip IV. Kings, their heirs, Princesses, and other figures of the highest nobility, would submit themselves to his scrutinizing gaze, observation and analysis as the patient submits to the accurate hand of the surgeon. Velasquez´paintings are the best way to understand the aesthetics and the discourse of power in Baroque Spain and Europe.
