Join us on a 2-hour guided walk, led by the delightful Simon Whitehouse.

Following our May walk east from Little Venice to Camden we will head west this time to see a wide range of fascinating sights.

Our first port of call includes a surprising Neo-Gothic masterpiece and a village-like churchyard where the remains lie of one of England’s most celebrated actresses.

Then we head to the heart of the area, Browning’s Pool, with its delightful collection of barges, houseboats and narrow lanes. The walk also takes in the many developments in transport, including a fascinating history of London’s waterways, railways and the controversial Westway road scheme.

We will pass by colourful narrowboats, Regency stucco terraces and a unique floating theatre before the walk transforms dramatically as we enter Paddington Basin. We cross modern footbridges that kinetically connect the two sides of the Grand Union Canal before passing a ‘royal’ hospital which was home to both one of the greatest discoveries in medicine and one of England’s most controversial surgeons.

Our walk ends near Paddington Station where we can marvel at Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s astonishing home to ‘God’s Wonderful Railway’ and learn about the poignant inspiration for that little bear from Darkest Peru!

Meet at Warwick Avenue Underground station at 10.45am for a prompt 11am start.
