This talk illustrates how Barbara Hepworth became such an admired and revered British artist,
Barbara Hepworth is one of the few British artists who achieved international prominence in the mid-twentieth century. Working in an age when few opportunities existed for professional, female artists, she created a modernist, abstract language for sculpture in carved stone and wood. Later after the war she would begin to express her fascination with the landscape around St Ives in bronze. Sometimes she would make drawings to articulate an idea but she remained primarily attached to shape, materials and mass.
