Portraits of women in various types of clothing have shocked and delighted audiences in equal measure - from Sargent's infamous little black dress worn by Madame X and Whistler's ghostly women in white to Klimt's golden visions fit for a queen and the tangerine drapery of Leighton's Flaming June.

In the same way that every picture tells a story so too does every dress, as our speaker Alexandra Epps will reveal.
