A day trip to the magnificent Burghley House near Stamford. Built by William Cecil to honour his queen, Elizabeth I, and as a home for the dynasty he founded, the house is one of the largest and grandest surviving houses of the sixteenth century.
We will have a guided tour of the treasures inside the house, as well as the opportunity to wander around the gardens and see the outdoor art installation: Botanic Tapestry. This display draws inspiration from Burghley’s gardens, wildflower meadows, ceramics, marquetry and textiles. There will be ample time for lunch and a cup of tea.
The Treasury Exhibition, located in the Brewhouse, is included in the entry ticket and offers a rare opportunity to see fascinating items from Burghley’s treasured Collections up close. Many of these objects are usually kept in the archives or private family apartments, while others, although displayed in the State Rooms, may go unnoticed among the House's many remarkable treasures. This annual exhibition highlights individual pieces, allowing visitors to appreciate their intricate details and uncover their stories.
Travel to and from Burghley House will be by Coach. See attached form for a detailed schedule for the day.
