The lives, works, and characters of three Italian artists are covered in this lecture!
Michelangelo Buonarroti was only twenty six years old when he created his famous sculpture of David in Florence.
He went on to decorate the Sistine Chapel in Rome with paintings which continue to elicit awe and wonder today, but he was known throughout his life for his fiery temper.
Caravaggio was arrogant, rebellious and a murderer and his short life mirrored the drama and moving realism of his works. He created the superb Supper at Emmaus and the Conversion of St Paul on the Road to Damascus in the Cerasi Chapel in Rome amongst other great paintings.
A more recent artist, Amadeo Modigliani, produced original portraits and nudes characterized by elongated necks and bodies but he abused his own body through alcohol and drug addiction.
