Visit to All Saints Church

Visit to All Saints Church

15 Dec 2021

On Monday 6th December 2021, thirty members of The Arts Society Maidenhead visited All Saints’ Church, Maidenhead – our first visit for almost two years.

Ken Smith, Church Warden showed us around the beautiful interior. The church, which is Grade 1 listed, was designed in 1857 by the renowned church architect, George Edmund Street, when he was only thirty years old. It is one of the first churches to use ‘constructional polychromy’ – this is where colour is not applied after construction, but is provided by the brick, stones or tiles used in the building. This is evident in the photo.

After the talk members enjoyed tea, coffee, cakes and chat in a comfortable café area at the back of the church.

All Saints’ Church appears as one of the ‘Fifty Treasures of the Chiltern Hills Area’, the new book recently published by The Arts Society Chiltern Hills Area.
