THREE GREAT FAMILIES AND THEIR GARDENS
THREE GREAT FAMILIES AND THEIR GARDENS
14 Jun 2023
Three families, so many great houses and so many different gardens! Caroline Rayman came to Horsham and, after giving a brief history of the origins of gardens in England (dating back to Roman times), wove for us a story of the Sackville-Wests, the Astors and the Rothschilds through the generations (all the way back to William the Conqueror!). In a talk full of humour and using comparisons with Italian and French inspirations over the centuries (not to mention the Parks departments of local councils!), Caroline brought alive the origins and development of these gardens, many of which we can still visit and enjoy today.
