TAS Kington Langley kicks off 2025

16 Jan 2025

The Arts Society Kington Langley kicked off 2025 with local lecturer and Antique Roadshow presenter Marc Allum. This was a repeat visit as Marc also had the January slot last year and was so popular that he was invited back to talk thistime about ‘Fakes and Forgeries’

Marc brought with him a selection of his pieces and we were encouraged to look at them, work out which might be fakes, forgeries or the ‘real thing’.

We were put through our paces as during his lecture as with different slides we had to make judgements about the various pieces of work on show. We did our best but I don’t think any of us will be joining the Antique Roadshow as experts anytime soon.

Marc talked about the difference between fakes and copies, and then we looked at various artists who plied their trade, turning out work ‘in the style of’ to either beat the establishment, make mischief or make money. Most were caught out but went on to fame and fortune presenting TV Shows!

Basically- buyer beware and buy what you love and then enjoy it.

A brilliant lecture with focused insight into the art world, examples of copies from antiquity as well as the opportunity to ask lots of questions, followed by a good look at the items Mark brought along with him.
