TAS Driffield Wolds visit Burton Constable Hall
12 May 2026
On Monday 11th May, members and friends of The Arts Society Driffield Wolds visited the amazing Burton Constable Hall. This hidden gem set in Capability Brown landscaped parkland between Skirlaugh and Aldborough in Holderness does not get the recognition it deserves. In the company of enthusiastic and knowledgable guides Jenny Scruton and husband David, our group was given a potted history of the Hall, its family and its treasures. The Hall has a long and fascinating history dating back to the Norman Conquest.
The Dining Room was designed by T. Lightoler with dining table and chairs by John Lowry. The Grand Staircase was also designed by T. Lightoler. The extraordinary dragon chair was carved by TW Wallis from a sketch by Lady Marianne Clifford Constable. The East Yorkshire Yeomanry exhibition is from the collected of guide Neil Hutty.
