TAS Bath support local young carers with a music and animation project

The Arts Society Bath matched their £250 Community grant and gave £500 to Bath Philharmonia (Bath Phil) in the spring to contribute to the cost of hosting a music workshop for Bath and North East Somerset Young Carers. At the workshops they composed their own music which was performed to a packed audience in Bath Abbey on 17th May.
Bath Phil works with the local Young Carers organisations who recommend who would benefit from the workshop. All the safeguarding guidance is followed, and Bath Phil ensures the children feel safe in the workshop, working with professional musicians and the Music Leaders. Many Young Carers look forward to the workshops and come back year after year; it's a time to get to know others, share experiences and have a break from their caring for parents and/or siblings. Normally aged from under 10 to 18, the carers come to the workshops which last 5 days in the school holidays. They share their thoughts and feelings, compose music, learn to play instruments for the first time and design graphics and pictures which are animated to go with the music. Bath Phil have successfully run these workshops for over 12 years.
