Newcastle and Gateshead delivered a ‘canny good’ celebration of art, culture, design and innovation this summer. The Great Exhibition of the North was an 80-day festival packed with fantastic contributions from the North of England to our cultural heritage.
As part of the official programme, The Arts Society hosted a series of talks at Tyneside Cinema showcasing a rich selection of our accredited lecturers. Reaching an impressive 450+ attendees, this wonderful initiative also offered energetic guided walks around the city and a display highlighting our Trails of Discovery and volunteering activities at St Nicholas Cathedral.
This project was the brain-child and hard work of a dedicated steering committee from the North-East, North-West & Scotland Areas, who hope that this is the start of more collaborative ventures…
“I have thoroughly enjoyed all that we’ve done and achieved together. I feel it’s been a great bonding exercise and one of which we can all be proud. I’m also determined it won’t stop there!” - Lizzie Darbyshire, Area Chairman North East
