When it was realised that The Arts Society AGM was to be held in Birmingham in 2017, our West Midlands Area team decided to celebrate this by holding a competition for A-level art students in schools and colleges in the area. The 'Make your Mark' competition was launched in October 2015, to be led by Ann Norgate, Young Arts Representative for the Stourbridge Society.
The Arts Society's West Midlands Area comprises Societies based from Royal Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon in the south to Stafford in the north, Rugby in the east to North Powys in the west. Young Arts Representatives from ten Societies approached local schools and colleges to encourage them to take part. By October 2016, 38 pieces of work had been submitted from 13 schools/colleges. On 18 October the judges, Robert Neil, President of the RBSA; Paul Hipkiss, Hon Curator of the RBSA; and Charlotte Hughes-Martin, Glass Artist, selected a shortlist of 14 pieces of work.
The shortlisted works will be on display at The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) until 27 May 2017.
