Eric Knowles - The Genius of Lalique
The inaugural event of The Arts Society Mallorca was an unequivocal success with a full-house of guests and a thoroughly engaging and entertaining talk from British TV personality and René Lalique expert Eric Knowles.
Members and guests went home with a new understanding of why the exquisite jewellery and art deco glass works by the Frenchman are indeed considered works of genius. His visuals gave a real appreciation of just how experimental Lalique was with his techniques and audacious in his combination of glass, enamel, diamonds and other precious stones.
Chairman Tim Robinson opened the events by thanking the volunteer steering committee for ten months of hard work which had made the evening possible as well as the support of overall sponsors Blevins Franks and the evening’s co-sponsors Real Homes Mallorca and Ticket Travel Agency.
The talk, followed by drinks and tapas in the OD hotel bar generated a great spread in the Majorca Daily Bulletin newspaper as well as a flurry of membership applications. The Society is now close to reaching its first 100 founding members.
The next event is on Tuesday November 13 when Jane Choy-Thurlow will travel from Holland to talk about the mystery of Johannes Vermeer.
Thank you to Vicki McLeod for her time and talent creating the photos.
