HURRAH FOR HYBRID AT HAMBLETON

HURRAH FOR HYBRID AT HAMBLETON

11 Oct 2021

We at Arts Society Hambleton are celebrating the overwhelming success of our first HYBRID LECTURE

That is a live lecture to members in the Hall simultaneously relayed to additional members at home via ZOOM.

Our lecture was MUSIC IN ART by early woodwind expert SOPHIE MATTHEWS. Sophie not only lectures on these historic woodwinds depicted in Art, she also plays replica instruments during the lecture. This would prove to be testing for our first HYBRID event.

We knew that we were likely to considerably limit Hall capacity on our return to live events this Autumn and that change would exclude members unable or unwilling to attend in person.  Therefore, over summer we worked hard on developing our HYBRID CAPABILITY.  A small team, with borrowed equipment proved the concept, we then bought our own kit and ran tests to hone our procedures until it was time to go Live!

So, on the 5th October, an audience of over 100 (a bit more than half in the Hall, the remainder being at home) enjoyed "MUSIC IN ART".   Sophie alternated slideshow lecturing with lively playing on her collection of replica instruments. A resounding success indeed judging by the ample feedback from the Hall and Online audiences. And what content! Sophie’s in-depth knowledge, her charm, eloquent delivery, and musical skills adding to total success. Many thanks Sophie for working closely with us on our new capability.

We received many messages of approval. In particular comfort taken from the generous spacing and the Stewarding from “Met and Greeted” to “to Safely Seated”!

This result means that in building our back our Hall audience we now have new flexibility to provide our programme this autumn and through next year as required.
